Medical Grade Skin Care
Dr McGovern and Dr Ives continually research skin care and the many new products available. Scientific research has shown three products to be outstanding in their ability to improve the skins health and appearance. These products are vitamin A, vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids. Anti-oxidants have recently been added to the list of "must have's" in skin care products. However, as with all products they must be manufactured correctly for the product to be of use to the skin. Our surgeon's have chosen products which have scientific evidence of their efficacy. These products are medical grade, that is: they cannot be purchased through pharmacies, department stores, or your beauty therapist. They cannot be purchased through the mail or the Internet, but must be distributed by medical practitioners and trained physicians only. The products we have chosen are much stronger and far more efficient than the products you can purchase "over the counter" (which have government regulating the strength of their active ingredients). The information supplied here is designed to help you understand the products that we recommend, why you are using them, and what benefits can be gained from their use. We have various regimes to suit individual skin care needs, the two most common regimes have been included here. Our beauty therapists and nurse aestheticians can recommend a Skin Regime for you.
Skin Care Regime 2: If your skin has suffered sun damage over many years, and you find yourself continually having lesions burnt or frozen, or surgically removed, you will have been recommended the use of the vitamin A and alpha-hydroxy acids. Ideally, you would benefit from the use of Cellex C or the Cosmedix "Pure C Crystals" as they contain L-Ascorbic acid, a powerful antioxidant which acts like a sponge to mop up free radicals before they damage your existing healthy cells.
Our nurse aestheticians and highly trained beauty therapists are here to help you with your skin care needs. We prefer to see you two weeks after commencement of your skin care routine and at regular intervals therafter to ensure that the best regime is being followed and to observe any reactions that may have occurred. In this way we can make sure that you are happy and comfortable with the routine and are therefore more likely to stick with it for life! Sun protection and the use of the very best skin care products that science has to offer, is the first and most important step you can take to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful and problem free.
Skin Care Regime 1: For the person that does not like the visible signs of ageing, that feels they are looking older than their age, or that live an active outdoor lifestyle: we would recommend the use of all three of the above products: vitamin A to reverse sun damage, vitamin C to prevent further damage and promote collagen synthesis, and alpha-hydroxy acid to ensure that the vitamin A and C get to a cellular level, so they can perform their rejuvinating tasks.
The skin care regimes we recommend are not magic, they are scientifically based. You will notice a difference in your skin, but like all things, this does not happen overnight - cellular renewal occurs on a monthly basis. With each subsequent renewal, each cell will become slightly improved. Your skin care and sun protection is a lifelong commitment if you want to continue to look your best.
