Dr Mark McGovern
Dr. Mark McGovern was the academic Dux of the Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) in Brisbane, before graduating M.B.B.S. (University of Qld.) in 1983. He passed the Part I (Basic Surgery) Examinations of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons only 15 months after graduation (rather than the usual 3 or 4 years after), before training in accredited General and Plastic Surgical Registrar positions in Brisbane and Adelaide.
He completed Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical training in 1993, passing his part II Plastic Surgery Surgical Examinations at the first opportunity allowed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Following qualification as a plastic surgeon, Mark undertook further voluntary study in England for 12 months, as the Head and Neck Surgical Fellow and Microsurgical Fellow at Europe’s largest teaching hospital, St. James’ University Hospital in Leeds. He then studied all aspects of cosmetic surgery at several world-renowned centers in the United States, before establishing his practice in Maroochydore in March 1994. He holds the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Certificate of Continuing Professional Standards, and attends numerous national and international meetings on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at least annually.
Dr McGovern is a member of:
- The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
- The Queensland Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons
- The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons
- The Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
- The American Society of Plastic Surgeons
- The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Dr McGovern attends many conferences each year to keep abreast of changes in this extremely dynamic field. The field of cosmetic surgery is not static and demands a high level of commitment to ensure that you receive the very best treatment and therefore – results.
In January 2011, Dr McGovern was invited to be a guest speaker at the 25th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in the US Virgin Islands. His extensive experience in the use of cohesive gel breast implants spans 14 years, is rivaled by few internationally.
Since 1994, Dr McGovern has treated literally thousands of men and women. His experience and commitment to helping you achieve your desired outcome, has resulted in clients traveling from all parts of Australia and overseas.
My journey with Vie started in 2000, preceded by ten years of assisting Dr McGovern in theatre at the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital.
After much deliberation, I accepted an offer to join Dr McGovern and Kathy at what was then Sunshine Coast Plastic Surgery. With the prospect of saying goodbye to shift work, working alongside people I greatly admired and in a clinic that had the most sensational views over the ocean, the decision to move was a ‘no brainer’! The added benefit of looking after people who were actually awake, rather than anaesthetized, was also a big attraction! It was a huge decision for me to leave the hospital environment but one of the best I have ever made.
My role at Vie has evolved and changed over the years, keeping me challenged and excited. I currently look after people who come to the clinic for information, advice and treatments for non surgical procedures as well as assisting patients after their surgery. I enjoy the mixture of both roles as it includes patients of all ages. I have learnt so much in the last 12 years and seen some exciting progressive changes in all areas of the practice.
My focus is aimed at assisting clients to achieve the very best in terms of the way they present themselves to the world. The way we look has become a reflection of who we are as people, how we feel about ourselves and our overall sense of happiness and enjoyment in life! We have so many lovely patients who have been returning to us for many years, it adds to my sense of satisfaction in helping them to achieve their goals.
Dermal fillers and Botox have always been the mainstay of non-surgical rejuvenation, and new advanced techniques have increased their efficacy and scope of use. I feel blessed to be equipped with years of experience which help me tailor every treatment to our client’s exact needs. I enjoy all areas of my work but am particularly drawn to treating the lower face for ageing and reconstructive work. Nothing gives me more pleasure than being able to correct a disfigurement or problem that has caused much embarrassment and heartache for years. The joy these patients experience when they look in the mirror after the treatment is all the thanks I need.
We have been fortunate to access the very best training opportunities over the years and in recent times have been invited to conferences throughout Australia and NZ. I am also extremely flattered to have won the “Cosmetic Injector of the Year” in 2010, alongside my fellow nurse injector, Moira Somers. I feel honored to be classed as a National Champion!
Finally, I consider it a privilege to be able to look after my clients needs, and I get great satisfaction in seeing their self confidence increase with their growing happiness in their appearance. I love my job at Vie and wouldn’t swap it for the world
After travelling the world for three years I ended up on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Coming from Perth, Western Australia I really felt at home here with the gorgeous beaches and fantastic life style. I began working at the Buderim Private Hospital which is now the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital.
I worked in all areas of nursing over the years, ending up as a Unit Manger of a surgical ward, where all Dr McGovern’s patients would be admitted, have their surgery, recovered and discharged. After five years as Unit Manger I then went into management as a Nurse Manger of the hospital. This role was quite a challenge, as not only did you over see staffing levels, patient admissions, and quality control matters I had to keep all the Doctors happy.
After spending 20 years at Buderim Hospital (which was like a home to me) Dr McGovern offered me a position at what was then known as Sunshine Coast Plastic Surgery. They were at the stage where the current staff levels weren’t enough for their growing clientele.
Jan Marret was working for Dr McGovern and had worked with me a Buderim Hospital from the very beginning, so it wasn’t a hard decision to make. A new chapter in my nursing career had begun. That was 10 years ago!
The world of cosmetic surgery I found quite exciting and exhilarating, you don’t have to grow old gracefully, you don’t have to be a movie star or royalty or wealthy to have surgery. Every day people now have this opportunity.
One of my roles at Vie is to discuss cosmetic procedures with anyone interested in surgery, a free service! I was astounded when I first started here, nothing is free. But it’s a great service which hasn’t changed over the years and it’s amazing how clients appreciate the time and effort that we put in and the level of information that they take away.
The internet is a great tool however it can be confusing with so much information that varies from site to site. So at our consultation its very informative, you gain so much knowledge about the procedure. We differentiate ourselves from others by showing you so many before and after photos! Not just our best 2 or 3.
I love my job! If you are interested in any cosmetic procedure, I would love to spend time with you and answer all of your questions.
My life on the Sunshine Coast began in 1994 after relocation from Darwin. Soon after this I started work at the Sunshine Coast Day Surgery as a Registered Nurse and part of my role was to look after Dr McGovern’s weekly operating list, where I was also lucky enough to meet Kathy Gambini who at the time was Dr McGovern’s assistant.
It was not long before I also become a client of Vie Institute and Kathy was helping me to stave off the ageing process. At this time I was having both Botox and Collagen injections and loving the results. I continued to work at the day surgery until 2004. In the November of that year I was offered a position by Dr McGovern and started working for Vie Institute in January 2005, and I have never looked back.
I thought the transition would be an easy one but I was very wrong! There was a huge amount of training and it still continues to this day! My role at Vie includes consultations with clients interested in cosmetic surgical procedure; pre and post care of surgical patients; skin care consultations and skin management. In the last few years my role has been focused more on the non surgical side. These days I more often treating clients with dermal filler injections and Botox.
I love this role and continue to learn more and more about different and improving techniques. Clients, once they get over the initial apprehension and of course the occasional bruise, LOVE the results.
My passion is facial volumising whether it be upper, mid or lower face. I also enjoy helping clients who have been affected by facial palsy or injury. This is often more challenging but has equally or possibly more satisfying results.
In the last few years I have also been fortunate enough to step back into theatre, which was my first love, as an assistant for Dr McGovern. So I consider my job to be tailor made – I am lucky enough to be doing all the things I enjoy! I hope to continue my career with Vie for many years to come and look forward to expanding my knowledge in all areas.
My name is Jade and I joined the Vie Institute family in January 2016. I am originally from Mackay, QLD and moved to the Sunshine Coast almost 4 years ago to pursue my career as a Beauty Therapist. Being offered a position at Vie Institute is everything I could have wanted for my career and working with such an amazing team makes me want to come to work every day.
I have a diploma in beauty therapy and I am also a licensed laser hair removal therapist. Previously I had spent a lot of time as a spa therapist, after a while I decided I would like to really sink my teeth in and learn as much as possible and move into a field that is moving quickly moving forward. That’s where I decided a career in the cosmetic field was for me. It was an area I knew I would forever be learning new practices and receiving new information.
I was lucky enough to be introduced into the world of Laser Hair Removal and soon after I was managing a clinic on my own. It’s such an amazing treatment that is cost effective and gets results! When I was offered the position at Vie Institute as the Laser Specialist I knew it was so much more than that! I’ve been learning everything there is to know about the Cosmetic world and learning about a holistic approach to all of our patients is so rewarding. This is why we have our beautiful clients coming back and referring their friends all the time! It’s not just a treatment here at Vie but an experience.
Working with the Vie Team has opened my eyes to the brilliance of medical grade products and treatments and that we can actually gain results. I am looking forward to meeting all of the Vie customers and helping to achieve results you truly deserve. I feel so privileged to be apart of an experienced and contagiously happy team here at Vie Institute and I truly feel blessed to be welcomed to the Vie Family.
Skin Specialist Clinician and Licensed Laser Hair Removal Specialist
Hi, I’m Michelle I come from Sydney and have lived on the Sunshine Coast since 2006. I am the resident skin specialist at Vie Institute and I am also a licensed laser hair removal therapist . I have worked at Vie since 2009 and in that time have helped a lot of sun damaged people to reverse the visible signs of excessive sun exposure and the ageing process in general. I am also responsible for removing a hell of a lot of hair from both Sunshine Coast men and women!
My background is beauty – I have been a beauty therapist for over 22 years and owned and ran a very large beauty and hair salon in Cronulla, Sydney for over 10 years. I sold my salon to have more time to spend with my family, but have continued to work part time in the beauty industry.
As my family is growing up and I have time to put back into a career, I decided that I wanted to learn more and move ahead. I decided I wanted a career in the Cosmetic Surgery/ Cosmetic Medicine field.
I worked for a time in Sydney with a surgeon until I travelled around Australia with my family and ended up on the Sunshine Coast and here I am at Vie Institute.
The thing I love most about my job is the difference I can make in my clients lives! – The improvement that they experience and how that then effects how they feel about themselves and their life in general!
I am very passionate about treating acne as I had very serve acne for a long time and know how much that effected my life. It is so rewarding when you change someone’s skin from problematic to normal! That has an enormous impact on their confidence levels and then, in turn their life. That is why I love what I do.
I also find it very rewarding when treating women with polycystic ovary syndrome( pco), a condition that causes women to have male hair growth patterns and often have to shave every day. To see them at the end of their treatments, where are hair free and no longer have to worry about shaving, they feel normal and feel they can go out without people looking at the hair on their face. That’s just the best feeling, helping someone like that.
Working with medical grade skin care is amazing and so rewarding and if you aren’t on medical grade skin care, you should be – so make a time to see me now so I can help you change how you feel about yourself.
If you mention that you read about us on the internet, I will include a medical grade antioxidant facial free of charge to kick start your skin care programe, and get your skin looking fabulous immediately!

In August 2007, I was delighted to be offered the position of part-time Bookkeeper with Vie Institute. The prospect of being employed by such a dynamic Sunshine Coast business and to be part of a team of dedicated professionals was exciting.
My career has always focussed on supporting the accounting aspects of the businesses I have worked for. At Vie Institute, my work is challenging without being overly demanding. Being a Libran, my focus is on achieving a balanced lifestyle by choosing when to work and when to play. My role at Vie has given me the opportunity to achieve this balance as well as the opportunity to learn so much more about skin care.
Another aspect I enjoy very much, is working in an organisation where the focus is on assisting others to feel and look their best. Although my role at Vie is in administration, I enjoy seeing the fantastic results our clients receive from our caring team of highly qualified staff.
Fun, Freedom and Friends are all valuable ingredients in making my life a happy one. Working at Vie delivers them all.

I am an Endorsed Enrolled nurse with a solid back ground in hospital administration and customer service. Prior to my position here at Vie Institute I was employed in a local day hospital looking after patients both pre and post operatively, I was also involved heavily with the administration department
I have been lucky enough to live and raise my busy family here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. I am genuinely excited for my journey here at Vie Institute and I am truly excited to meet you all.
Vie Institute is situated along a quiet stretch of river at Cotton Tree. This area is fast becoming the medical specialist centre of the Sunshine Coast. Our rooms take full advantage of the beautiful views of the sparkling waters of the Maroochy River, looking out across the river mouth to Mudjimba Island. We have purpose built our rooms to provide a modern and relaxed space for you to enjoy.
Confidentiality is paramount at Vie Institute. We ensure your comfort and privacy at every visit.
The natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast attracts many visitors every year. We receive enquiries about surgical procedures from all corners of the globe, and often these enquiries follow through to surgery. The option of having surgery performed in a country with high medical standards, but relatively low costs is one hard match. We have the added advantage of being in a holiday destination, where you can recover in the warmth and beauty of the Sunshine Coast while your friends and/or family enjoy a relaxing holiday.
We realise that it can be difficult organising surgery long distance, and that you may have limited time to spend on the Sunshine Coast, but we do this regularly and we are here to help make everything run smoothly for you.
Initially, we will conduct “virtual consultations”, whereby we correspond by email. We will ask that you complete a series of forms in detail. We will also ask that you send recent photos of yourself. These details and photos are required so that your surgeon can decide that you are a suitable candidate for surgery and the exact procedure you will require. We may also ask for measurements such as weight or girth measurements, your assistance in these matters is paramount to ensure the best possible result.
We would expect to have all details organised well before you leave home. To maximize your time on the Coast, we will organise an appointment for consultation with your surgeon on a Tuesday afternoon and surgery for the following day. We would recommend a stay of at least one week after surgery on the Sunshine Coast, so that your surgeon can check on your postoperative recovery. Obviously, the longer the better, two weeks is ideal in most cases.
As part of our service to you, we can help you with accommodation choices and bookings. We have many luxury apartments with stunning water views within walking distance of our rooms. The beautiful Mooloolaba beach is only 5 minutes away by car, and a popular choice for those coming with their families.
Budget accommodation also abounds, so whatever your budget, we can help to find something suitable for you.

More and more people are choosing to finance surgery, rather than wait for extended periods. Today there are many companies offering finance for surgery of all kinds, including cosmetic surgery.
Recently the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons has revised the “Code of Practice” – a set of guidelines that plastic surgeons must abide by. In the most recent update, they have advised that plastic surgeons should not provide our patients with an introduction to any financial institution.
