Our variety of wrinkle treatments can reduce the appearance of fine lines that show with frequent muscle movements, such as squinting, frowning or smiling, and lines that are visible even without facial movements.

At Vie by Fraser Kirk, our team can create a personalised wrinkle treatment plan, based on the condition of your skin and your unique personal needs. We can recommend a single type of treatment or a combined approach, finding a solution that suits you best.

What Causes Wrinkles?

At Vie by Fraser Kirk, located on the Sunshine Coast, we understand that education is key to managing expectations about skin care and ageing.

Wrinkles are primarily a result of the natural ageing process. As we age, our skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic, which means it is less able to protect itself from damage. This leads to wrinkles, creases, and lines on the skin. Environmental factors like sun exposure can accelerate this process by breaking down collagen and elastin, the fibres that support the skin structure.

Lifestyle factors also play a significant role in the development of wrinkles. Smoking can accelerate the normal ageing process of your skin, contributing to wrinkles. These effects are due to constricting blood flow to the skin, depriving it of the necessary nutrients. Similarly, repeated facial expressions, such as squinting or smiling, cause fine lines and wrinkles. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms under the skin’s surface, which deepens with age as the skin’s elasticity declines.

Diet and nutrition are other crucial factors. The skin needs a good supply of nutrients and hydration to stay plump and resilient. A diet high in sugar and other carbohydrates can accelerate ageing by damaging collagen and elastin. On the other hand, a diet rich in vitamins C and E, among other antioxidants, can help protect the skin from the damage caused by free radicals and slow the formation of wrinkles.

Types of Wrinkles

Wrinkles vary significantly in type, each influenced by different factors. Dynamic wrinkles appear as a result of facial movements, such as frowning, laughing, or squinting. They are typically seen as horizontal lines on the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, and lines on the cheeks. Over time, these dynamic wrinkles can become static wrinkles, which are visible even when the face is at rest.

Static wrinkles result from the loss of skin elasticity and gravity. They include lines at the corners of the mouth, along the cheeks, and neck creases. Another type, known as fold wrinkles, develops along the lines of facial expression due to descending skin and is deeper, such as the nasolabial folds running from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Understanding the type of wrinkles you have is crucial as it dictates the most effective treatment method. At Vie by Fraser Kirk, our team assesses each client’s skin type and wrinkle pattern to tailor a treatment that specifically addresses the skin concern, adhering to a scientific approach that respects the natural contours and conditions of each individual’s skin.

Suitable Candidates for Our Wrinkle Treatments

Suitable candidates for our wrinkle treatments are those looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and prevent the progression of existing wrinkles. However, some factors we’ll need to consider before we can determine that a treatment is a suitable choice for each candidate.

To ensure that you are a suitable candidate for wrinkle treatment, we will assess your skin and carefully evaluate the condition of your wrinkles, as well as the type of wrinkles you have in the desired treatment area (whether they are dynamic or static).

We’ll also need to ask questions about your general health and expectations for the treatment. Suitable candidates are in good health, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have realistic expectations about the results.

Candidates should not have active skin infections in the treatment area, or known allergies to the treatment materials. Those with a history of certain chronic illnesses or who are on medications that affect muscle activity should discuss these during the consultation.

Once we have determined that you are a suitable candidate during your consultation at Vie by Fraser Kirk Sunshine Coast, we can then develop a treatment plan with your most suitable treatment method. Your treatment plan could include wrinkle relaxers, facial treatment for volume loss, LED light therapy, microneedling, and/or skin peels, depending on which treatment best meets your needs.

Ways We Treat Wrinkles

At Vie by Fraser Kirk, we offer a variety of treatments to address wrinkles, each tailored to the specific type of wrinkle and the client’s skin condition. If you’re not sure which type of wrinkle treatment will work best for you, we can make recommendations during your consultation, after carefully assessing your skin.

Wrinkle relaxers

For dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that are visible with certain facial movements), we treat them by using techniques that target the muscle responsible for wrinkle formation. These anti-wrinkle treatments (also known as anti wrinkle injections) can be highly precise, targeting the specific muscles that cause the visible wrinkles.

Facial treatments for volume loss

For static wrinkles (wrinkles that show even when the face is still), we recommend aesthetic facial treatments for volume loss. These treatments target the area to increase volume and stimulate collagen production, thereby reducing the appearance of deeper set lines and wrinkles. They can address nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other areas with volume loss due to collagen depletion.

We also offer other wrinkle treatments such as Excel V+ Laser, LED treatments, collagen induction therapy, and skin peels.

Laser treatments

Excel V+ Laser works by gently heating the deeper layers of the skin, specifically the dermis, without damaging the surface, stimulating collagen regrowth to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles, laser can reduce the appearance of other skin conditions within the same treatment, such as skin texture or pigmentation.

Fraxel Dual Laser is an effective treatment for pigmentation, spots, sun damage and wrinkles. It utilises two different wavelengths of laser energy to help treat a range of skin concerns. Fraxel Dual Laser can help to stimulate collagen production, which aims to address skin texture and irregularities.

LED light therapy

LED treatments involve using light-emitting diodes to activate the skin’s natural healing processes. Different types of LED lights can have different effects on the skin, allowing for highly personalised treatment.

Microneedling (collagen induction therapy)

Collagen induction therapy, commonly known as microneedling, involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin to stimulate natural collagen and elastin production. The treatment can cover wider areas or be highly precise, depending on your treatment goals.

Skin peels

Skin peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel away. Each treatment requires different intervention and recovery times, and our team is dedicated to finding the most suitable option for each client.

Our Philosophy on Treating Wrinkles

Our philosophy at Vie by Fraser Kirk is centred around a respectful, holistic approach to ageing. We believe in addressing various skin concerns, such as wrinkles, through scientifically backed methods that respect the body’s natural ageing process. Our treatments address different types of wrinkles without altering fundamental facial expressions or features.

Education is a cornerstone of our practice. We spend significant time during consultations explaining the causes of wrinkles and the rationale behind each recommended treatment. This empowers our clients to make informed decisions about their skincare. We aim to create a partnership with our clients where they feel supported and informed throughout their skincare journey.

Furthermore, we advocate for a preventive approach to skincare. This includes not only treatments in our clinic but also recommendations for daily skincare routines. This holistic approach helps clients maintain longer-lasting results and supports overall skin health. Specifically, this comprehensive strategy not only addresses current skin issues but also helps in preventing future damage. Our holistic approach extends to lifestyle adjustments that complement our clinical treatments, supporting the overall well-being and skin health of our clients.

Wrinkle Treatment Aftercare

We will explain how to care for your skin after your type of wrinkle treatment, to help your skin heal and reduce any minor post-treatment discomfort. Generally, our wrinkle treatments require little to no downtime and minor side effects as the skin heals.

Wrinkle relaxers (for dynamic wrinkles)

After anti-wrinkle treatment, you’ll need to avoid touching or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid lying down, frequently bending over, or engaging in strenuous exercise for about four hours. This helps to ensure that the treatment stays within the intended area. Avoiding excessive heat exposure, such as saunas or hot baths, as well as excessive sun exposure, is also recommended. Gently applying cold compresses can help to relieve minor discomfort that can occur within a few hours after your treatment.

Facial treatments for volume loss (for static wrinkles)

After facial volume treatment, you should avoid applying pressure or massaging the treated areas for at least 48 hours to prevent shifting the product. It’s also recommended to stay hydrated and avoid alcohol, as it can increase swelling. Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and sleeping on your side for a few days to minimise pressure on the treated areas. If possible, try to sleep on your back with your head elevated on an extra pillow. You may experience some swelling or bruising, which can be managed by gently applying ice packs for a few minutes at a time.

Laser treatments

After laser treatment, you’ll need to keep the treated area clean and avoid excessive heat or sun exposure for at least a week, as your skin will be more sensitive. You will need to avoid picking or scratching the area to allow for sufficient healing. You should apply a gentle moisturiser daily and use a sunscreen with high SPF to protect the skin, avoiding using any harsh skincare products (such as exfoliants) until the skin fully heals. You might experience redness, swelling, or peeling, which is normal – soothing creams or cool compresses can help to reduce discomfort.

LED light treatments

After LED light therapy, you’ll need to keep your skin moisturised with a gentle, hydrating product, and apply sunscreen if you’re exposed to sunlight, as your skin may be slightly more sensitive. You should avoid using any harsh skincare products for at least 24 hours, such as exfoliants or products with strong formulas. If your skin feels a bit warm or flushed, you can cool it down with a cold compress.

Collagen induction therapy (microneedling)

After microneedling (or collagen induction therapy), it’s important to avoid touching your face excessively and refrain from applying makeup for at least 24 hours to prevent irritation. Your skin will be more sensitive, so use a gentle, hydrating cleanser and avoid any products with active ingredients or exfoliants for a few days. You can also apply a soothing serum or moisturiser to support healing and minimise redness. You’ll need to protect your skin from the sun by using sunscreen with high SPF and avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week, as well as avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot showers for 48 hours to reduce the risk of irritation.

Skin peels

After a skin peel, your skin will be more sensitive and may experience redness or peeling, so it’s important to keep it moisturised with a gentle, hydrating product. Avoid touching, picking, or exfoliating the peeling skin, as this can lead to irritation or scarring. Stay out of direct sunlight and always apply sunscreen with high SPF to protect the treated area, as your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage. You should avoid using strong skincare products until your skin has fully healed, as well as avoid hot water, saunas, and strenuous activities that may cause sweating for a few days to allow your skin to recover properly. Your specific instructions may differ slightly depending on the type of peel you have had, so be sure to closely follow the instructions that will be provided during your consultation.

Potential Associated Risks

We understand the potential risks that come with cosmetic treatments for wrinkles. We take these risks seriously and follow strict protocols to minimise them. Some common risks include bruising and swelling, while less commonly, there is a risk of infection or allergic reactions. We ensure that all clients are fully informed of these risks and are given detailed aftercare instructions to help manage and mitigate potential side effects.

Our commitment to patient care and efficacy is paramount. We continually update our practices based on the latest research and standards in the cosmetic treatment industry.
