Breast Reduction
A breast reduction, also known as a reduction mammoplasty, is a type of breast surgery that is designed to reduce the size and weight of the breasts.
A reduction mammoplasty is generally suitable for those with excessively large breasts, who may be experiencing discomfort or health issues that are directly linked to the breast’s size and weight. These issues can include neck, back or shoulder pain, posture issues, and skin conditions (typically underneath the breasts, caused by excess breast tissue). However, patients may elect to undergo the procedure for purely aesthetic purposes.
The procedure involves removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin and creating a smaller breast size that aligns with the patient’s individual features and expectations. Depending on the patient’s needs and the amount of reduction required, it can be performed using a variety of techniques and incision placements, including the ‘anchor’ incision, the ‘vertical’ or ‘lollipop’ incision, or liposuction.
Breast Lift
A breast lift, also known as a surgery for mastopexy, is designed to lift and reshape the breasts. The amount of lifting and reshaping will depend on the patient’s personal needs and preferences.
This type of breast surgery can be suitable for those who have noticed a change in skin elasticity on the breasts, which usually causes them to sit at a lower position than they used to. It’s normal for the breasts to slightly drop in position over time, whether it be due to the natural ageing process, after pregnancy and/or breastfeeding, or after significant weight changes.
The surgery works by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissue to help reshape the breasts and lift them to a more suitable position (according to the patient’s personal preferences) on the chest wall. The procedure can be personalised by using different types of incision patterns, depending on the extent of the surgery.
Breast Augmentation with Breast Implants
A breast augmentation with breast implants can increase the size and change the shape of the breasts with highly personalised surgery.
The procedure is often chosen by those who want to make changes to the appearance of their breasts due to personal preferences, but it can also be performed as a reconstructive procedure following a mastectomy or after trauma. Breast surgery can also address specific aesthetic features of the breasts, such as symmetry.
An augmentation with implants involves a wide variety of options, including different types of breast implants (sizes, shapes, profiles and textures), and placement options. During a consultation, you will be able to try a variety of breast implant shapes and sizes and discuss your options in further detail to help plan your personalised procedure.
A breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift to address the position of the breasts as well as the size and shape, but this will depend on your individual needs and desired results.
Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting
A breast augmentation with fat grafting is a type of breast surgery that can increase the size of the breasts without using breast implants. The procedure can also make small changes to the shape of the breasts.
This type of breast augmentation can be suitable for those who are only seeking minor to moderate changes, want to avoid breast implants, and want to undergo liposuction on another area of the body (as this will be required during the fat grafting process). However, patients will need to have a sufficient amount of fat in another area of the body to be suitable candidates for the procedure.
The surgery involves taking a portion of the patient’s own fat from a specific area of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs, and transferring this donated fat to the breasts. The fat is then shaped to make subtle to moderate aesthetic changes to the breasts.
Sometimes, fat grafting can be combined with breast augmentation using breast implants to make additional changes to the breasts. For example, fat grafting can be used to make further minor adjustments to the shape or symmetry of the breasts or help conceal the appearance of breast implants.
